For the past 40 years Mike Cooper has been an international musical explorer, performing and recording, solo and in a number of inspired groupings and a variety of genres. Initially a folk-blues guitarist and singer songwriter his work has diversified to include improvised and electronic music, live music for silent films, radio art and sound installations. He is also a music journalist, writing features for magazines, particularly on Pacific music and musicians, a visual artist, film and video maker, collector of Hawaiian shirts and appears on more than 60 records to date.

My work these days is mostly solo. My solo performances as a guitarist / singer is pretty straight forward and is like this in these videos – I call this performance Spirit Songs.
Live Music for Silent Films is something I do a lot of and I have a huge repertoire of films, and I have performed all over the world with these. I am focusing mostly on ‘Exotica’ type films these days as an outlet for my ‘Exotica’ recordings. I have been getting many rave reviews for these recordings of late Fratello Mare (Room40), White Shadows In The South Seas (Room 40 c.d. /Sacred Summits vinyl) these are both films as well as recorded releases that I do live.
Other films in the genre are Legong (I am about to record a soundtrack), Tabu by Murnau is the first films I ever did and I have performed it hundreds of times all over the world. I m adding films all the time to my repertoire as it is something that I enjoy a lot and it is very popular.
